Wii Fit: Argos Changes the Rules

I have always had misgivings about ordering my Wii Fit from Argos. Whilst all the indicators seem to suggest that I will be getting a Wii Fit on Friday, they have changed the delivery time from between 12pm-6pm to between 8am and 6pm...at least according to the letters and phone calls that I keep getting!

OK, it is only the one phone call, and the one letter, but nonetheless very unexpected when ordering goods online. Is this over-the-top 'customer service' a reflection of their not knowing how to behave in an online environment, or is it because they have changed the delivery times? If it's because of the delivery times then they could at least include an apology.

...on the subject to the Wii, Asda had Sega Superstars Tennis and Sonic and the Secret Rings for £15 each today...a reminder that it's not always cheaper online.

I think we got the letters as it is a different division which has been set up purely for the wii fit pre-orders hence the seperate phone number quoted on the letter. I think that it was helpful to recieve the confirmation that it will be delivered today. Obviously due to the logistics of delivering their entire allocation of the product in one day they have had to extend the delivery time. It is better than some places where I looked to pre-order where pre-orders were being taken before the allocation was known hence some customers will not recieve their copy until the next shipment. Or other sites which will not actually be delivering until 30th and do not tell you till the checkout. Also the letter states if you are not in they will try to deliver again on Saturday and on Monday (argos usually only reattempt delivery once). You can't say fairer than that!

@anonymous Whilst appreciating the logistical difficulties, surely the need to extend the hours of the delivery could have been anticipated, and if not, they could have apologised for the unforeseen extension of delivery times. How many people suddenly found themselves needing to take the morning off of work just in case? Personally I wouldn't want to wait until tomorrow. Luckily I convinced my employer that I was going to a conference in Llandudno for the whole day.

@anonymous ...came at 12.45. Great fun, but that is because I steered clear of any activities that had any chance of getting me fit.

Interesting to read your experiences. It is 6.37pm and I have been trying to get through to Argos since 6pm... because my Wii Fit has not been delivered as promised between 8am-6pm today. Anyone else in the same boat? I was very surprised when Argos left a phone message and sent a letter but it hasn't been backed up by actually delivering the goods. Why am I not surprised?

Mine didn't arrive either - really annoyed as I took the day off work.

Oh - and if you call the number on the letter it disconnects after two rings.

Not happy.

Same here. Got the letter and the phone call promising delivery between 8am and 6pm today to my work address but it didn't turn up.

Queued for 45 minutes on the phone line before giving up.

Trying to deliver to my work address on Saturday isn't going to work either.

Pre-Ordered one with Argos too. Never even attempted delivery on the first two days specified. I rang the call centre to be fobbed off with all sorts of misinformation.

I phoned the head office today and asked to speak to the CEO as I said they had breached their contract as the letter specifically said the item WOULD be delivered on that day (there was no get-out clause for them). I am promised a delivery tomorrow and I have been also promised a partial refund.

I told the person I talked to (supposedly fielding calls to the CEO) that this delivery issue was different to most as Argos had specifically solicited the sale by sending me an e-mail promising delivery on a specific day. From the comments on this blog it seems like a fairly widespread problem.

I opted for Argos as I find Amazon's delivery standards have gradually gone down the toilet.

@m clarke - Its a shame that we have no idea what sort of proportion didn't get the delivery...after all, those who are sucessful don't comment

I would also be interested to know how much a 'partial refund' amounts to...
